CONSIDERATION OF AUGUST 19, 2008 MEETING MINUTES
Tor moved to approve the minutes as written.Daniele seconded the motion and the Board approved the minutes unanimously.
CONSIDERATION OF AN APPLICATION TO REPLACE WINDOWS AT34 & 36 VLIET STREET
The applicant explained that he would like to replace 10 windows in front and 5 at the rear.He plans to replace an additional 15 on the sides and rear of his property located at 34 & 36 Vliet Street in the spring of 2009.The existing windows, made of wood, stick despite applying sprays and other treatments and create drafts in the winter.
The replacement windows will closely match the existing white wood framed windows with a six over six grid pattern. The new window frames would be made of white vinyl. The applicant paid the supplier, Window World, extra for “colonial” six over six grid markings that replicate the existing wood windows.
Board members agreed to approve the installation of the 30 windows so the applicant would not need to appear before the Board in the spring. Herb moved to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness. Tor seconded the motion and the Board approved the request unanimously.
CONSIDERATION OF AN APPLICATION FOR AN AWNING AND REPLACEMENT DOOR AND WINDOWS AT 24 MANGAM ST
The applicant proposed installing a dome awning over the front entrance.Vice-Chairman Barbara Hildreth commented that the same applicant installed similar dome awnings on Willow Street as approved by the Board. Those awnings work well with the brick row house structures in that part of the historic district.
The applicant will also replace the existing door with a steel door and the existing windows with aluminum clad wood windows that have 7/8” grid markings for the façade and white vinyl windows on the remainder of the house.
Tor moved to approve these changes.Daniele seconded the motion and the Board approved the request unanimously.
CONSIDERATION OF AN APPLICATION FOR A REPLACEMENT DOOR AT 10 STRONG PLACE
The applicant proposed replacing four exterior doors on 10-12 Strong Place. He would install the fanlight steel doors himself and leave the glass above the doors intact. Then he would paint the doors colonial red to match the existing trim. The home has a brick exterior.
Tor moved to approve the COA.Lynne seconded the motion and the Board approved the request unanimously.
