Surveys of Interest Needed for Proposed Housing Improvement Program for Cohoes Release Date: June 20, 2012
The City of Cohoes is currently preparing a grant application to the Department of Homes and Community Renewal which will encourage long term maintenance and revitalization of residential properties in the community. If awarded, the grant will be used to continue the local Neighborhood Housing Improvement Program for eligible property owners in order to make necessary repairs and improvements to their property.
The City of Cohoes is asking for homeowners to complete a survey of interest which will be included in the grant application in order to show the need for housing improvements throughout the City. Property owners can request a survey by contacting City Hall at (518) 233-2119 or you can download the applicationonline through the City’s website at www.ci.cohoes.ny.us under Community Development. All surveys should be submitted no later than Wednesday, August 1.
The objective of this program is to continue investment in needed improvements in one-to-three unit owner-occupied residential properties. Assistance will be provided to support that work in substandard homes whose property owner and tenants (if a multi-unit owner-occupied property) meet the income guidelines required by the funding agency. These basic repairs will result in improved neighborhood conditions which will encourage long term maintenance and revitalization of all properties throughout the City.
“The City of Cohoes has had great success over the years, rehabilitating more than 70 residential units. That being said, we know that there is a continued need for this type of funding in our community, especially in these difficult economic times. Improvements centered on safety, energy conservation, and compliance with building code are the focus of this application and I encourage residents to review and submit this survey in order to assist us in documenting the needs and supporting this application,” said Mayor John T. McDonald III.
The completed application will be submitted to the Department of Housing and Community Renewal by August with award notifications to be announced in the fall. Questions regarding this program can be directed to the Office of Community Economic and Development at (518) 233-2117 or by email at etremblay@ci.cohoes.ny.us.
